ICONIC MORTGAGES LTD

Home / About

An adviser you can actually get hold of

Iconic Mortgages Ltd is the home of Ujjwal Malik, an independent, whole-of-market mortgage and protection adviser based in Bicester, Oxfordshire, advising clients across London and the whole of the UK. Advice is provided through Match Financial Partners Ltd, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Why we set up

Ujjwal has been in this industry since 2014 — two years in protection, then eight years as a mortgage and insurance adviser at a whole-of-market brokerage, and now at Match Financial Partners. Iconic Mortgages was set up to do that same work under one name, with one adviser attached to it from start to finish.

The thing most brokers get wrong is treating a case as a rate search. A lot of the work that actually matters happens before an application goes anywhere near a lender: whether the income will be read the way you expect, whether the property is something a high street lender will touch in six months, whether there is a realistic exit on a bridge. Get that wrong and the cheapest rate on the sourcing system is worthless.

So the cases we take on tend to be the ones that need structuring — auction purchases against a 28-day clock, limited company buy-to-let, self-employed and contractor income, bridging with a clear exit, and clients carrying a credit blip from years ago that they have been told rules them out. It usually doesn't.

How we’re different

  • Whole of market. Ujjwal isn’t tied to a lender or restricted to a panel of a handful of them.
  • One adviser. You won’t be handed to a case manager after the first call. The person who advises you sees it through.
  • Free initial consultation. The first conversation costs nothing. The application fee is charged by Match Financial Partners Ltd upon submission of your full application.
  • We answer the phone. Evenings and Saturdays included, because most people can’t take calls at eleven on a Tuesday.
  • Straight answers. If a deal doesn’t stack up, or you’d be better off staying put, we’ll say so.

Your adviser

Who you’ll be speaking to

One adviser, named and on the public register, from the first call to completion. You are welcome to check the record before you speak to him.

Ujjwal Malik

Founder, Iconic Mortgages Ltd · Mortgage & Protection Adviser at Match Financial Partners Ltd

Ujjwal has worked in UK financial services since 2014 — first in protection at Owl Financial, then for eight years as a mortgage and insurance adviser at 1stCall4 Mortgages (UK) Ltd, and now at Match Financial Partners. Over that time he has advised first-time buyers, home movers, landlords and limited companies, along with clients on complex or multiple incomes, clients with only one year's accounts, and clients with credit issues. He holds the Chartered Insurance Institute's Cert CII (MP).

His approach is deliberately plain: explain the options in normal language, set out what the lender will and will not accept, and confirm the recommendation in writing so you can read it back at your own pace.

  • Residential, buy-to-let and limited company lending
  • Bridging, auction and development finance
  • Self-employed, contractor and other non-standard income profiles
  • Clients with credit blips or a non-standard credit history
  • End-to-end case management, including lender, solicitor and valuer coordination
  • Protection advice alongside the mortgage
  • Suitability-focused recommendations built on detailed affordability and document review

Straight answer

Two names, one adviser — here’s why

Iconic Mortgages Ltd is the company behind this website. It is registered in England and Wales, company number 17332860. It exists to publish information, answer questions and put you in touch with an adviser. It is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and it does not give advice.

Match Financial Partners Ltd is the FCA authorised firm, firm reference number 983246. Ujjwal advises through Match Financial Partners, and he is authorised and regulated by the FCA in that role (individual reference number UXM00304). Match Financial Partners is the firm responsible for the advice you receive, and it is the firm the Financial Ombudsman Service and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme relate to.

One thing to expect if you check the register. The firm was recently renamed from Match Mortgages Limited to Match Financial Partners Ltd. Companies House has been updated and the FCA Register is following. The firm reference number, 983246, has not changed, so if the Register still shows the old name against that number, nothing is wrong — it is the same firm.

What that means for you in practice. You can enquire here by form, phone or WhatsApp. Once you decide to go ahead, your advice, your suitability report, your illustration and every piece of regulated paperwork will come from a Match Financial Partners email address, and anything you send back should go to that same address. If something regulated ever arrives from anywhere else, ask before you act on it.

You can verify all of this yourself on the Financial Services Register before you share a single document.

How it works

Four stages, and you’ll always know which one you’re in

  1. STAGE 01

    The first conversation

Twenty minutes, free, no obligation. We go through your income, deposit and plans, and tell you honestly what’s achievable.

  2. STAGE 02

    Decision in principle

We pick the lender and get you an agreement in principle, usually within 24 to 48 hours — the document estate agents want to see.

  3. STAGE 03

    Full application

We submit, chase the valuation and answer the underwriter. You send documents once; we handle the back and forth.

  4. STAGE 04

    Offer to completion

Your formal offer arrives and we work with your solicitor to completion. Then we diarise your rate expiry for next time.

How we’re paid

We think you should know this before you speak to us, not after.

There will be a fee for the mortgage application, charged by Match Financial Partners Ltd. For a standard residential or buy-to-let mortgage it is typically £495. For commercial, semi-commercial and specialist lending it is typically 1% of the loan amount. The precise figure depends on your circumstances and is confirmed in writing before you commit.

Fees are set case by case. The initial consultation is free, and the fee is charged when we submit your full application — not at the first conversation, and not at completion. You will be told the exact amount in writing before you apply.

We will also normally receive a commission from the lender once your mortgage completes. This does not change the amount you pay the lender. You will receive the exact figures in writing, in a document called a Key Facts Illustration, before you are asked to commit to anything.

For protection and insurance products we are usually paid by commission from the insurer rather than by a fee. Again, we will tell you the amount before you apply.
